The Allegheny Plateau is in southeastern Ohio from a line that runs from the middle of Ashtabula County and runs southwest down to around Portsmouth and the Ohio River. This Allegheny Plateau can then be divided into 2 parts: glaciated and unglaciated. Glaciated is land that had glaciers and the other did not have glaciers.
The unglaciated Allegheny Plateau is in extreme southeastern area of the state. It is marked by extremely hilly land broken by sharp ridges, with narrow ravines and creeks. At one time this land was heavily forested with enormous hardwood trees. Those trees have since been removed through cultivation and use, and even though there are now many forested areas, none of them are are older than about 100 years.
